Back in May 2015, imgur user LunaticPreserve bought a house with a pretty big open backyard that hadn’t been well-maintained. He figured that he’d have a few years to work on it and decided to leave it be. But, November that same year, he and his girlfriend got engaged, and after looking at wedding venue prices, he started to freak out.
One night, however, his fiancée suggested that they put their money into the yard and have the wedding at their house.
As a result, what would’ve been years of renovation happened in a span of a few months.
This was the north side of the said yard.
Here’s a picture of their front yard.
The start of the project. You can clearly see how neglected the yard was with its crappy fence, random trees, and even a bent clothesline pole.
The front yard all cleared out.
The whole backyard free of all the debris.
Looking at the costs of things, LunaticPreserve opted for wood fences instead of brick walling. He recommends looking for a used building supplies store for some ideas and to save on materials.
With the fencework done, he’d decided to seed things using a mixture of grass seed and clover to make the whole backyard soft and cushy.
They then decided to add a new patio/dance floor.
Time to screw the boards on the deck.
LunaticPreserve is thankful for his many friends, as two (including the one marrying them) built them an arbor for their wedding.

“In summary, got engaged in December, decided to hold the wedding at our house in January, and pulled off an amazing wedding on a budget in a beautiful yard with 125 friends and family in June!” LunaticPreserve says.
Now, who says weddings have to be expensive? With a little work, you can have it in your house and it will still be as memorable, or even more so!
